Global Health Fellows follow a four year GP training rotation that includes a period Out of Programme (OOPE) in rural community hospitals in South Africa.
The OOPE posts in South Africa will be undertaken at the end of ST2 and trainees will then return to complete their pre-arranged ST3 year.
In addition, Global Health Fellows will have dedicated educational support throughout their training – prior to departure, during the year away, and upon return to the UK – and bursary funding may be available to exceptional candidates who wish to undertake a Diploma in Tropical Medicine.
GHF opportunities from August 2021
Unfortunately the Global Health Fellowship (GHF) programme was suspended due to the Covid pandemic in March 2020. This is now ready to relaunch with opportunities available from August 2021.
Current Global Health Fellows who wish to continue on programme will be offered placements from August 2021 as a priority.
In addition to this, applications are open for any ST2s who have not yet applied and ST1s who will be able to apply to commence on programme from August 2022. To be eligible, trainees need to be making satisfactory progress in their training programme and have passed the AKT etc.
If you are interested in this opportunity, please contact your Training Programme Director.
