This page is to ensure that Public Health trainees are aware of the specific requirements and resources available for their Annual Review of Competency Progression (ARCP). All trainees within the Public Health Specialty training programme are required to undertake a yearly assessment of their progress with a small specialty-based panel. This is integral to enable a Specialty Registrar to progress to the next year.
The ARCP provides a formal process that reviews the evidence presented by the Specialty Registrars in training and their educational supervisor relating to their progress against the objectives defined in the curriculum. It enables the Specialty Registrars in training, the Postgraduate Dean and employers to document that the capabilities required are being gained at an appropriate rate and through appropriate experience.
See the Gold Guide 10th Edition from August 2024 HERE Pg 63 – ARCP for further information and details
Most ARCP’s are held between the 1st week of June and the first week of July, unless you are out of sync or expecting a pre-maternity ARCP.
StR should receive an ARCP invite a minimum of 8 weeks before the ARCP Date. The school will aim to send this invite out 10-12 weeks before the ARCP allowing adequate time to prepare documentation. All documentation is usually required to be submitted 2 weeks before the ARCP date. This should give a minimum of 6 weeks to prepare for ARCP. StRs are not expected to attend ARCP Panel, they may receive a calendar invite for date information only.
The ARCP email invite should state the following information:
- Date of ARCP
2. List of documentation required and any templates.
3. Deadline for submission date
The list of documents required for ARCP is:

Educational Supervisor Report(S)
You must supply an ES report for each placement you have been in since the start of programme if first ARCP, or since your previous ARCP date. You should ensure you meet with your ES and get this report at the end of each placement. Please ensure you set up a meeting with your current ES for this to be completed in GOOD time of the ARCP date. Your current ES report must be completed no less than 2 weeks before the ARCP Panel date and not before 8 weeks of the panel date.
Learning Agreement form
please supply a learning agreement for each placement you have been in since the start of programme if first ARCP, or since your previous ARCP date.
Curriculum Progress Review
If this is your first ARCP you do not need to submit anything at this point, but to show progress, a screenshot of last years learning outcomes is helpful at ARCP. To find previous curriculum progress review, you can do this by using the filter option under curriculum progress on Eportfolio. Enter the dates from start of training to previpous ARCP date, and this will show previous years learning outcomes.

Pre ARCP meeting summary
As soon as you receive your invite, please ensure you get in touch with your TPD to arrange a pre-ARCP meeting to be held about 3-4 weeks before the ARCP, after the ES reports are available. The TPD’s have a checklist to go through with you, to ensure you have all documents in place, or what else may be needed.
Please ensure you have your forms uploaded as much as possible to the E-Portfolio in time for the pre-meet, then the pre-meet form can be uploaded and added to your Documents.
