New Updates

2026 – 2027 Foundation Doctors in Training Representatives

KSS FS F1 and F2 doctor representatives have been appointed for 2026-27. Please see contact details here: KSS Foundation Doctors in Training Representatives – Working across Kent, Surrey and Sussex

Changes to LTFT application process

From 2 November 2026, Resident doctors should please submit applications to train Less Than Full Time (LTFT) through TIS Self-Service. Please do not use previous LTFT application forms. Applications should normally be made with at least 16 weeks’ notice. Where a proposed start date is less than 16 weeks away, TIS Self-Service will ask for details of the exceptional circumstance.

A tab for applications for LTFT will be active in TIS self-service, alongside the current tabs. The guidelines around LTFT applications for your area have not changed and you will still require pre-approval from your TPD to apply. Deanery information pages on LTFT applications are being updated to reflect this new application process route. If you submit an application through other routes on or after 2nd November you will be redirected to the TIS application system, potentially delaying your application process.

Foundation Induction Survey – follow up survey

Thank you to everyone who completed the Foundation Induction Survey in August. We would like to invite you to complete the follow up survey to find out how you are getting on 2 months into the job.

The Severn Foundation School is coordinating this project for participation by all F1s. This survey is part of a long term project to identify any concerns/anxieties you may have about your F1 post. The information you provide will help to develop a realistic evaluation of the induction programme, preparedness for F1 and help us to improve working life for future trainees.

Placement Supervision Group (PSG)

Feedback on clinical performance is vital to the development of a doctor. The clinical learning environment supports the provision of structured and constructive feedback from the wider multi-professional clinical team. The Placement Supervision Group (PSG) feedback tool is a useful independent tool in the e-portfolio. Regular feedback from the PSG aids the development of the foundation doctor (FD) and provides additional evidence of progression and achievement of Curriculum outcomes. It enables clinical supervisors (CS) to obtain in depth feedback on their FD’s performance in the workplace to support the CS end of placement report.

The CS responsibility is to identify senior members of the multi-professional team who have worked with their FD, to formalise feedback on the FD’s performance and contribute to the CS end of placement report. For more information, see pages 40 and 41 of the FP Curriculum 2021 (2026 Revision).

F2 stand-alone recruitment

The UKFPO have confirmed that they will no longer recruit to F2  Stand-alone vacancies on a UK-wide basis. More information can be found here:

Horus

An optional SFP supervision form is now available in Horus. More information is available on the Specialised Foundation Programme (SFP) supervision form webpage.

UKFPO e-portfolio webpages – useful information

A reminder about the content on e-portfolios, including highlighting e-portfolio principles in the FP Curriculum 2021 (2026 Revision), information about Horus and Turas and guidance for FDs on building a portfolio.

Important Information

Provisionally registered doctors (Foundation Year 1) must not undertake formal locum posts or activities.

Provisionally registered doctors can undertake occasional ad hoc additional/overtime shifts on their current or previous FY1 placements that have formed part of their FY1 rotation, where such work is undertaken only within the limits of their current competence and with the support of their educational supervisor. When undertaking such occasional ad hoc additional/overtime work, provisionally registered doctors should be clear with other members of their team about their current experience and level of competence.

SCRIPT – supporting safer prescribing practices

The SCRIPT programme is a collection of innovative eLearning portfolios designed to encourage safe and effective prescribing and medicines management among healthcare professionals. The SCRIPT page on the UKFPO website has been refreshed recently, see SCRIPT – Safe prescribing eLearning programme – UK Foundation Programme.

SCRIPT will enhance your knowledge and confidence in prescribing correctly, improving patient safety, therapeutics and medicines management. You will receive a certificate for each module that you complete, which can be used in your online learning portfolio. SCRIPT is easy to use. You can access the modules at a time which suits you and revisit them even after completion. You can learn more about the SCRIPT eLearning programme and how to sign up by visiting Medicine & Surgery | Safe Prescriber

  • Additional script modules were released on the 1 July 2025 and are available to all foundation doctors (F1 and F2)
  • The SCRIPT Team completed work on a new edition of the Medicine & Surgery portfolio for Foundation Schools. The new edition comes with the following enhancements:
  • Reauthoring of selected modules to maintain alignment with the underlying evidence base.
  • Redesign and splitting of larger modules into more discrete modules to reduce per module running time, whilst expanding on scope, in response to Foundation Doctor feedback.
  • Module interfaces and navigation upgraded to a new design to maintain WCAG AA compliancy for improved accessibility for those with learning difficulties.

It is a local KSS Foundation School recommendation that all F1 and F2 doctors complete 6 script modules per year prior to ARCP.  The topics are not mandated by the foundation school; however, your trust may mandate topics to support learning.

Invitation to join UK-REACH Cohort (Wave 7: Focus on Medical Training (Prioritisation) Act)

UK-REACH are inviting resident doctors to take part in the UK-REACH cohort study (Wave 7: Focus on Medical Training (Prioritisation) Act), part of the I-CARE (InCreAsing Retention of healthcare staff from Ethnic minority groups) study. Following the introduction of the Medical Training (Prioritisation) Act (a new law prioritising UK Medical Graduates for training places), we are particularly keen to understand the views of doctors, including Resident, Foundation, SAS, and Locally Employed Doctors, and are therefore inviting more doctors to join the existing UK-REACH cohort. People from all communities and ethnicities are welcome to take part in the study. Registration and further information available here.

Survey: Foundation doctors’ exposure to oncology – Royal College of Radiologists

The UK is facing a significant oncology workforce shortfall, with demand for cancer care outpacing capacity and contributing to delays in patients receiving safe and effective treatment. As a result, the Royal College of Radiologists is currently researching doctors’ exposure to oncology at foundation programme level, and would be extremely grateful for input from foundation programme directors.

Here is the link to access the survey: https://forms.cloud.microsoft/e/TXHf5x6hR7

The deadline to complete it is Friday the 18th of December 2026.

Reminders and Guidance

Horus e-portfolio update: Combined CS/ES end of placement report

This new form went live in October 2025. It includes all the elements of the two separate forms and is the only one that needs to be completed if the CS and ES are the same person.

The form is available in the ‘Forms (start new)’ section. A blank version is available on the UKFPO Assessments webpage.

The system will suggest this form to joint CS/ESs and provide guidance on the “Forms (start new)” page.

The overview will count both CS and ES forms as complete if this one form has been completed. However, the combined form can’t be used to replace the ES end of year report.

PLEASE NOTE: A satisfactory ES end of year report is still required prior to ARCP.

TIS Checks

Please can we use this opportunity to remind Medical Education colleagues in Trusts to work with their Medical Staffing teams to regularly check Foundation Doctors’ posts on TIS, against internal records. Early recognition of any discrepancies can help us all to resolve issues quickly.

Also, if you have not already informed us of any F1s that have withdrawn from training, please do so, as we aren’t always made aware by resident doctors themselves.

Foundation Doctors taking Parental Leave

Foundation Doctors who will be taking a period of Parental Leave are required to complete the following training interruption form: https://kss.hee.nhs.uk/kss-foundation/useful-links-and-documents/ and return to england.kssfoundationenquiries.se@nhs.net. This is in addition to informing your employing Trust.

UKFPO Updates:

FP Curriculum 2021 (2026 Revision)

As the first placement comes to an end, Foundation Doctors and Supervisors should pay particular attention to the increased emphasis on sustainability and delivering high-value healthcare, and supporting FDs to reflect this within their portfolio evidence and practice which you can read more about here. areas of focus within the FP Curriculum 2021 (2026 Revision).

CS and ESs are encouraged to use end of placement reviews to support FDs in producing concise, evidence-based summary narratives that highlight progress, strengths and areas for development. See the new quick guide for ESs to support end of placement reviews.

The updated Foundation Programme core learning topics reflect the focus of the 2026 Revision and all LEPs should be referring to these when delivering and refining their teaching programme.
