ePortfolio and exams

ePortfolio

The Royal College of Ophthalmologists (RCOphth) manages an online training portfolio for trainees. This user-friendly web-based platform allows completion of clinical and academic competencies, educational appraisals and results of the Annual Review of Competence Progression (ARCP).

For further details about the Ophthalmology ePortfolio, please go to the Royal College of Ophthalmologists website.

Exams

There are three examinations required to complete training, all hosted by the Royal College of Ophthalmologists.

  • Part 1 FRCOphth – clinical optics and clinically relevant basic science. This exam is a requirement to progress beyond ST2.
  • Refraction Certificate – required to progress beyond ST3
  • Part 2 FRCOphth – clinical theory and practical assessment. This is split into a written part and clinical part. This exam is a requirement for CCT (completion of training). However, it is recommended that this is passed by the end of ST6 so that your final subspecialty year can be utilised fully.
