Differential Attainment

Differential attainment

DA describes the gap between actual and potential levels of development for our doctors in training. Different doctors experiencing the same learning oppportunities and training programmes will achieve differing levels of success in recruitment, ARCPs and exams. The causes are not fully understood but there are a range of measures which can be taken to reduce this gap in attainment; the London and KSS differential attainment toolkit outlines many of these measures.

The resources in the toolkit will help educators to support the learning needs of each doctor in training. They highlight the need for an individual approach to each doctor and the benefits of a supportive learning environment.

These resources are valuable CPD for educators and should help supervisors TPDs and senior education faculty to identify areas where a doctor may benefit from additional support, guidance or signposting to facilitate them reaching their fullest potential.
