Acting up into a Consultant

Acting Up Into a Consultant

Resident doctors who are within one year of their anticipated completion of training date are eligible to act up as consultant. This is for a fixed term period of three months maximum, based on a whole time equivalent. Acting up provides trainees with the experience of navigating the transition from junior doctor to consultant, whilst maintaining the supervision associated with being a doctor in training.

All resident doctors who wish to act up should:

  • Read through the acting up into consultant policy and procedure document, which can be found here
  • Complete and return the application form contained in Appendix one via the PGME support portal here
