Palliative Care in the ICU
June 2 at 7:00 pm until 8:30 pm
This session is aimed at pre-specialty trainees, but all are welcome to attend
Session Outline: This session will bring together lessons and unknowns from clinical practice and research to discuss how palliative care is an essential part of intensive care. The intensive care unit looks after some of the sickest patients in the hospital and their families. The support we can offer by integrating palliative care principles into their care can help to make their journey less distressing. The complexity of the intensive care unit, and palliative care as a concept mean that this interface can be complicated and warrants some thought. What does palliative care mean in the ICU? How does the variability in ICUs impact this care? What specific challenges do we face in this context and what can we do to work together to better provide this care? We hope to invite a thoughtful conversation and provide food for thought for your potential next steps to provide excellent palliative care in the ICU.
