The Kent, Surrey and Sussex (KSS) Deanery Locality Dean, Dr Ruth Silverton, was pleased to be invited to attend and open the second annual Undergraduate Medical Education (UGME) in Secondary Care Conference, hosted by Maidstone and Tunbridge Wells NHS Trust.

The event began with warm enthusiasm from Chief Executive Officer, Miles Scott, and Director of Undergraduate Medical Education, Dr Pamela Leventis, both of whom spoke passionately about the importance of collaboration and innovation in medical education. They emphasised putting the trainee experience at the forefront of training and demonstrated a deep understanding of the challenges and opportunities within undergraduate education as reflected in the current NHS landscape.

The conference featured excellent and informative Medical Student and Fireside Chat Panels, where participants from the University of Oxford, Kent and Medway Medical School, and Brighton and Sussex Medical School shared insights into the advantages and challenges of their respective training models. Learner reflections were complemented by contributions from cross-school faculty, ensuring a balanced exchange of perspectives and experiences.

The Poster Competition and Lightening Talks by regional Education Fellows showcased impressive academic and educational projects, with the winners receiving their awards from Dr Ruth Silverton, Locality Dean, who also closed the event.

Overall, the conference was exceptionally well organised and delivered, providing a valuable platform for sharing ideas, celebrating innovation, and strengthening collaboration across the region.
