The KSS Educator and Resident doctor conferences 2025!

Thank you to everyone that attended our 2025 Deanery conferences, which were held at the AMEX, Brighton. Both events were very popular and a great success.

KSS Annual Conference for Educators – 27 February 2025

Our third annual educators’ conference was held on in Brighton, with over 100 face to face delegates and an equivalent number tuning in remotely from across the 15 acute, mental health and community trusts, and the primary care networks within the four integrated care boards within the Kent Surrey and Sussex Deanery. The one day meeting, led by associate dean Alison Crocker, consultant obstetrician at Chichester Hospital, kicked off with a key note from Prof Jo Szram, postgraduate dean for KSS on her
leadership journey in education, with a canter through the pathway to becoming
a senior education leader. Three repeating workshops focused on how to ensure
good governance around annual reviews for resident doctors in training,
collaborating within educational networks, and supporting learners and
educators at work with a focus on personal wellbeing. These were interspersed
with two further keynotes, from the legal team who support NHS England with
legal challenges and employment tribunals and finally a collaborative
presentation from the Maidstone and Tunbridge Wells NHS Trust leadership team –
CEO Miles Scott and Director of Medical Education Derek Harrington – on the
recipe for a truly combined way of working to deliver service, workforce,
training and education outcomes in a large provider trust. The delegates left
feeling empowered and engaged in their educational aims, ready to work with the
SE WTE team to ensure that we build the KSS Deanery together over the coming
months and years. A follow up event for resident doctors incorporating the
national Medical Training Review (launched by Prof Sir Steve Powys and Prof Sir
Chris Whitty this week) will be held in a few weeks’ time – ensuring our
regional voice is captured in national strategy and delivery planning.
